the tapering double-edged steel blade with central ridge and swollen tip, damascened with foliate motifs, the jade hilt of baluster form, inlaid with gold floral decoration, set with foiled rubies and diamonds in the kundan technique

Condition

In general good condition, some oxidisation and rubbing to the blade, part of gold on one of carved leaves missing, as viewed.

A similar Mughal hilt composed of nephrite jade and set with diamonds and rubies in gold, but with a slightly varying shape, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. no. 630-1875).
