A Kashan lustre bowl with stylised decoration and inscriptions, Persia, Early 13th Century

of deep rounded form on a slightly raised foot, decorated in a golden-brown lustre with a central motif featuring stylised arabesques and seaweed motifs, the rim reserve-decorated with a band of naskh script, the exterior with a large band of stylised lotus buds

In general good condition, intact, some slight abrasion to rim consistent with age, as viewed.

ey bordeh delam ze dast deldari kon
vaz kar-e to …. hamkari kon
danam ki gar khosh bovad adab
ba zaban-e khosh ma-ra yari kon

‘O you has taken my heart, console me!
Out of your affairs … assist me!
I know, if politeness is sweet,
With sweet tongue, help me!’

al-ufuq al-ghiram lana ghiram
tafakhar ‘azm tara bihi al-kalam
nasim al-rayh [min] anfas ruhi
‘alayka ka-ma [‘ala salma salami]

‘Verily, our passion is beyond power,
Words fly away carrying pride of will
A breeze of air from the breath of my soul,
I greet you as I greet Salma.’
