Catalogue Note
A similar, though fragmentary bowl from the Al-Sabah Collection (inv. no. LNS 368G), illustrated in Carboni 2001, pp.222-223, cat.no.59, is decorated with a similar relief design of vegetal scrolls as the present bowl. It is suggested that it was also originally of lobed form, with an attribution to Persia, and datable between the late eleventh and early twelth century, providing a good basis for comparison with the present cup (ibid).
