  • Opaque watercolor heightened with gold on paper
Gouache heightened with gold on paper, with four abbreviated columns of text separated by double intercolumnar rules in gold, with an added illuminated headpiece with title "kitab layla wa majnun" written within a gold cartouche against a blue ground panel decorated with polychrome flowers, laid down on an album page with outer borders of leafy plants in faded gold, framed

Condition

In good overall condition, some slight retouching, a few smudges and very minor flaking, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

Whilst the title "kitab layla wa majnun" appears in the illuminated headpiece, the text within the abbreviated columns is from Nizami's Khusraw va Shirin and describes Khusraw sitting with his lute player Barbad, which is likely to be what is depicted in the present miniature.
