Catalogue Note
This pair of armchairs are based upon well known 18th century Venetian models, examples of which are illustrated by C. Alberici, Il Mobile Veneto, Milan,1980, p. 241, fig 349-350.The boldly scrolled arms and deep scallopshell on the seat-rail is reminicent of French Régence models during the first quarter of the 18th century. Other 18th century models are recorded see for example, C. Santini, Mille Mobili Veneti, Vol. III, Modena, MMII, p. 202, fig. 315.
