Description

  • tortoishell, mother of pearl, gold. silver
  • 24cm high, 15cm wide and deep; 9½in., 6in., 6in.
of serpentine form, the cover decorated with Venus seated amongst clouds and cherubs, the sides decorated with cherubs, butterflies and birds, all within rocaille and foliate borders

Condition

In overall good original condition. Very attractive detail to the inlay which is in very good condition. Some very minor chips to the tortoishell on top and scratches. Some very miniscule sections of metal inlay missing eg a cherub on the right side and the leaf and some minor secton of foliage on the back and the hand and part of the back of one cherub on the reverse. There are also some very miniscule losses to the bottom edge of the left side.
