  • 60cm.high, 69cm. wide, 52cm. deep; 1ft. 11¾in., 2ft. 3¼in., 1ft. 8½in.
attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, with a lead-lined interior

Condition

Good overall condition. Some wear ro the carved finial which has lost some of the carved detail but which does not detract much. Minor warping to the top.Good colour.

Catalogue Note

A wine cooler of very similar form but without a lid commissoned  by John Lloyd Wynne ( d.1862) of Coed Coch, Denbighshire from Gillows was sold Christie`s London, 18th April 1996, lot 231.

A wine cooler with a fluted cover and carved finial like the present example is illustrated in Ralph Edwards and Percy Macquoid, The Dictionary of English Furniture, London, rev`d ed., 1954, vol. 1, p.223. This example from the Montague Meyer family collection was sold Christie`s London, 24th April 1980, lot 57.
