Description

modelled by J.J.Kaendler and P.Reinicke, each naturalistically modelled  with tails curled, pink bows and blue or turquoise ribbons with gilt bells at their necks, an alert expression on their black faces, the bitch with a puppy suckling below, on oval bases applied with flowers and leaves

Condition

The bitch with tail re-stuck, both with very fine hair-cracks to base and with tiny chips to ears and leaves, some leaves restored and with some losses, some surface scratches to enamels and gilding

The pugs are mentionned in Kaendler's records in June 1744 as follows"2 neue Mopß Hunde auf einem Rasen sitzend, angefangen zu poußiren und selbigen die gehörige Action und Gestalt gegeben, welche hernach dem Bildhauer Reinicken vollends fertigen lassen". See similar models illustrated by in Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, 1966, pl.268, nos. 1091 and 1092.
