Catalogue Note

Georg Lamprecht was a highly-praised and much-travelled painter, who specialised in grisaille painting of animals and of classical scenes after Angleica Kauffman. He seems to have worked at the State factory in Vienna from 1772 to 1784, then again in 1788, and yet again in 1797 to 1825.  In the intervals, he was at Sèvres from 1785 tp 1787, and for a period at the Clignancourt factory in Paris.

His exact dates in Paris are not known, but he was certainly there in 1793, the date of a signed piece in the Sèvres museum.

A Sèvres tray signed by Lamprecht, with grisaille painting of animals in a very similar style, was sold at Christie's New York, 11 June 2010, lot 25; For classical subjects by Lamprecht on a signed Vienna tête à tête, see E.Sturm-Bednarczyk and C.Jobst, Viennese Porcelain of the Neo-Classical Period, fig.102.
