8-inch gilt chapter ring set on a black velvet ground above a figural and foliate mount flanked by plaques signed Piquet, Rennes, the movement with five vase-shaped pillars, later Brocot escapement and suspension, numbered outside count wheel striking on a bell, pierced steel striking gates, signed on the backplate Piquet A Rennes, the case with flambeau finials above panels of contra-boulle inlay of birds and foliate scrolls in turtleshell and pewter, the sides veneered with shell and divided into panels by brass stringing, the moulded base applied with a gilt lambrequin, on gilt feet
