Description

  • 165.5cm. high, 130cm. wide, 60cm. deep; 5ft. 5in., 4ft. 3in., 2ft.
the rectangular top above sides and cabinet doors inlaid with acanthus leaves, crossbanding and a crowned monogram MF (?), opening to reveal fifty shallow drawers surrounding a cabinet door opening to reveal a further slide above an inlaid, parcel gilt, silk mounted and mirrored interior, above four large drawers, the stand with a frieze slide on husk inlaid square legs and bun feet joined by a husk inlaid stretcher, the back with a partly illegible inventory label Auf Speicher No 35 and illegible handwriting V. Rosen...; several of the slides now combined to form drawers

Provenance

By family tradition previously in the collection of the Princely family of Anhalt-Dessau.
Acquired in Magdeburg in the 1960's by the father of the present owner.

Condition

In overall good restored condition. There are restored sections to the veneer throughout which have been well executed. There is a restored patch to veneer on the bottom left hand side of the left cupboard door (as visible from the photo) and there is a repaired age crack to the bottom right hand side of the same door. There are restored age cracks to the bottom left and right hand side and to the centre of the right cupboard door. There are signs of previous mounts to the top of both sides of the inner cupboard door. The etched brass mounts on the slides would benefit from a good clean.Beautiful detail to the marquetry decoration and the etching of the brass lockplates.An interesting and highly decorative piece.
