  • 45.5cm, 17 7/8 in high
the bell-shaped body embossed with palm leaves below and engraved inscription on one side and an applied cast vignette of two race horses on the other, stallion finial, the foot engraved: 'RUNDELL, BRIDGE ET RUNDELL. AURIFCES REGIS ET PRINCIPIS WALLAE LONDINI FECERUNT.'

Condition

Gilding is modern, marks are clear, a 3 or 4 inch crack in lid below the plain section.

The inscription reads: 'BOROUGHBRIDGE RACES / 1805. / Stewards / the EARL of DARLINGTON / and / JOHN INGLEBY ESQr'
This cup was won at Broroughbridge Races on the 28 August 1805 by a horse owned by John Bowes, 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (1769-1820).
