Description

  • wool pile
  • Approximately 348 by 276cm; 11ft. 5in., 9ft. 1in.

Condition

Colours are tonally correct in the catalogue photograph. However in reality the appearance is crisper, more defined and more attractive. The pile is 2/3mm overall, dense and generally even overall. There are some ares within the main field, where there is wear down to the foundation, for example lower left corner and another area across to the lower right (in catalogue photograph). There is also a white disc shape stain in the area in the blue ground, and another white stain in the top right corner in the blue ground (top right corner of catalogue photograph). There is some discolouration visible in the areas of the red ground, for example lower left corner. In the corners of one end (top end in the catalogue photograph), there are two rectangular shaped rewoven sections in the narrow outer border, towards the corners (only noticeable on close inspection). There are tiny holes (approx. 7mm and 1.2cm) near these sections in the top left and right corners, which should be repaired. The original fringing at both ends has some losses and wear. The original side-cords have sections with the red wool wrapping missing, and some sections of the cord are loose. The side-cords and small holes would benefit from attention. This carpet is a good size, of striking appearance, good quality wool and of high and fine quality weave.
