Description

  • Ebony, brass, steel, glass
  • 13¼in. 33.5cm. high
5¾-inch dial with winged cherub spandrels, matted centre with date aperture, strike/silent lever at XII, the fusee movement with six knopped and ringed pillars, verge escapement, pull quarter repeating on three bells and striking on a further bell, the backplate with gadrooned border and engraved with a spray of flowers and signed Richard Jarratt, Londini Fecit, folaite pierced and engraved apron, the case with domed top surmounted by a brass carrying handle and with finely chased foliate mounts, brass ball finials, foliate repousee brass frieze fret, hinged glazed side panels and brass bun feet

Condition

Dial in good condition, good original hands, later button to strike/silent lever. Movement is complete but is much in need of a clean, replaced escape wheel but otherwise wheel trains appear to be original. Case in generally good original condition. With a wainder and case key.

Catalogue Note

Richard Jarratt (Jarrett) was a Freeman of the Salters' Company and became Free of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1670. He was Master in 1686.  He ceased to attend meetings of the Company due to ill health in 1693 and is thought to have died by 1698.
