Description

  • Ebony, brass, steel
  • 34cm. 13½in. high
6¼-inch dial with winged cherub spandrels, matted centre with ringed winding hole and central alarm disc, the movement with five knopped and ringed pillars, verge escapement, pullquarter repeating on two bells, the alarm train acting on the smaller bell, the backplate engraved with foliate scrolls and signed Michael Bird, London, the case with pierced and repousee gilt basket top  and ball finials, similar side frets and mounts to the front door, the m oiujlde base with brass bun feet

Condition

Dial in generally good condition although chapter ring would benefit from re-silvering, hands and alarm disc replaced. Movement is complete and looks as though it would run, re-conversion to verge escapement but otherwise appears to retain the original wheelwork, one movement fixing bolt replaced. Case has old cracks, scuffs and marks throughout. With a winder and case key.
