Description

  • Stained fruitwood, brass, steel
  • 49cm. 19¼in. high
8-inch dial with mask and scroll spandrels, foliate engraved centre with date aperture and central alarm disc, sonne/silence lever at XII, signed on a silvered boss in the arch Nicolas De Beefe A Malines, the movement with spring barrels and verge escapement, Dutch striking on two bells, the alarm acting on the larger bell, the backplate engraved with foliate scrolls, winged musicians and siogned in a cartouche as the dial, the case with moulded bell top with gilt-brass carrying handle and finials, the moulded base with a key drawer

Condition

Dial has discolouration to the silvering and mounts are possibly re gilded, good original hands. Movement is complete and appears to retain the original wheelwork throughout, running and striking at time of cataloguing but would benefit from a clean and service. Case has restoration throughout and may possibly be associated, stained to resemble walnut, old scuffs, cracks and marks throughout, rear door with later top catch due to warping. With double-headed winder and two case keys.
