Catalogue Note

The Höchst factory's reputation rests largely on the Commedia dell'Arte figures modelled by Johann Christophe Ludwig von Lücke in 1752-1753. The latter took inspiration from the series of comedy figures published around 1720 by Johann Jacob Wolrab in Nuremberg.
The model of Isabella appears to be extremely rare on the art market but is in the Pflueger Collection (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, no. 2006.870), the most complete series which comprises fifteen of the sixteen figures recorded.
