Description

  • walnut
each with a rectangular padded back above downscrolled arms and trapezoid padded seat on S-scrolled legs joined by a scrolled H-form stretcher on block feet; restorations

Condition

In overall good conserved condition. There has been some stregthening to the underside of the stretchers. The chairs have been reblocked. One leg on two chairs has been broken in the past and restored.

Armchairs of similar Louis XIV design, originated both in Piedmont and in Liguria. The frame is usually carved as an os de mouton. Other sets are known to exist:: one in the Albergo dei Poveri, Genoa, the other was until 1979 in the Castello di Arenzano.
