le dossier formé de trois épais panneaux rectangulaires en zitan incrusté de huamu sculptés en haut relief, le panneau central dépassant les deux autres en hauteur à décor d'un dragon à cinq griffes représenté de face à la poursuite de la perle enflammée parmi les nuages stylisés, les deux panneaux latéraux de deux phénix de profil tournés vers le dragon perchés sur des branches de bambou, les panneaux des accotoirs arrondis sculptés d'un côté d'une branche de prunus fleurie émergeant des rochers et de l'autre d'un pin au tronc noueux, tous soulignés d'une frise de grecques, le cadre du fauteuil postérieur ; l'assise rapportée (4)

Acquired in China in the 1920's, thence by descent in the family

The back and sides of the armchair are made of three different carved zitan and huamu panels. The left panel is in good overall condition. The central panel is in good overall condition with some tiny chips to the bamboo leaves to the left and right parts. The right panel shows some secured cracks to the zitan border : one starting from the armrest with associated small chip and extending inside on 5cm and outside on 7cm. Another horizontal crack to the outside (5cm). One 1.5cm loss along to the wood on the inside border where the right panel meets the back one.
