Description

ouvrant en façade à quatre vantaux sur un montant fixe et un tiroir en partie basse surmontant une traverse découpée, chaque panneau orné d'une scène représentant des personnages se livrant à diverses activités sur les terrasses plantées d'arbres et de pavillons, surplombant des paysages lacustres entourés de hautes montagnes, chaque panneau souligné de frises de grecques, les côtés ornés d'un motif géométrique, l'intérieur formé de quatre casiers en haut et deux casiers en bas séparés par deux petits tiroirs, les charnières en cuivre doré à décor de rinceaux (8)

Condition

Both cabinets are in very good overall condition. One with a 11.5cm age crack inside to the back also visible on the outside. Some small chips to the red lacquer to the front mostly to the angles. The other one with some tiny chips to the red lacquer to the corners. Both with some losses to the black lacquer to the back mostly along the edges.

Catalogue Note

Miniature cabinets such as the present lot were often made in pairs and embellished with a variety of subjects ranging from dragons to scholars in a landscape setting. Compare a similarly carved cinnabar lacquer cabinet formerly in the Qing Court collection and now in the National Palace Museum, illustrated Carving the Subtle Radiance of Colors.
