"Chacun a un kalibangoma, un protecteur, même si le père est mort" Proverbe Lega (in Biebuyck, 2002, p. 166)
Au regard du croquis de l'objet réalisé lors de sa collecte, en 1957, est indiqué : "kalibangoma" - terme désignant, chez les Lega, les petites figurines en bois, en os ou en ivoire, appartenant à des initiés du grade pénultième de l'association du Bwami (idem). De la forme incertaine de la base émerge avec puissance la silhouette anguleuse résumée à l'essentiel, imposant au premier plan la tension de la face "en cœur" et la violence de ses traits aigus. La force de la sculpture est accentuée par la profonde patine du bois à l'aspect fossilisé, et par les nombreuses traces de prélèvements rituels le long du bras gauche.
