Cette coupe monumentale relève, en pays Dan et Wè, de la même tradition que celle des célèbres cuillers cérémonielles anthropomorphes wa ke mia - insigne de dignité décerné à la femme la plus hospitalière d'un village ou d'un quartier, symbolisant sa générosité et ses talents. Superbement ornée de larges motifs champlevés envahissant les parois, elle était portée par les femmes Wè lors de certaines mascarades, avant de contenir le riz offert à la communauté (Adams, 1986, p. 46).
