Catalogue Note

Ce très rare et ancien couteau Baulé se distingue par sa dimension, par la beauté de sa gaine en peau d'antilope richement parée de coquillages rouges (Spondylus senegalensis), par l'élégance de la poignée ornée d'un visage humain sculpté en haut relief, et par sa superbe patine d'usage. Le musée du quai Branly possède un couteau très comparable, donné par Louis Carré au musée d'ethnographie du Trocadéro, en 1930 (inv. n° 71.1930.58.1).
