Tout comme l'or, l'ivoire fut longtemps, dans la région Centre de la Côte d'Ivoire, l'apanage des chefs et des membres de leurs familles. Cette parure de tête rappelle, par la rareté de son iconographie et la beauté de son exécution, que le corps demeure en Afrique le lieu privilégié de l'expression artistique. Ici le sculpteur est parvenu, avec talent, à exprimer dans le très élégant jeu de courbes, la fierté des oiseaux dont les têtes à la crête déployée sont animées par les yeux sertis de métal. Superbe patine orangée, mettant en valeur la délicatesse des modelés et du décor gravé.
