Catalogue Note
La composition classique de cet étrier tapuvae présente un puissant tiki cariatide campé sur des jambes fléchies, une main sur l'abdomen, l'autre, dans un geste inhabituel, tenant son sexe. Le corps est orné d'un décor linéaire finement gravé à l'outil de pierre, et prolongé par la courbe frontale du repose-pied, elle aussi richement décorée. Le capitaine Bardin a voyagé autour du monde entre 1848 et 1870 à bord des vaisseaux la "Jeune Nelly" et "L'Hercule". Il collecta cette pédale d'échasse - utilisée lors d'épreuves sportives rituelles, dans le cadre de cérémonies funéraires - lors de l'un de ses voyages, et la rapporta en France en 1870, date à laquelle il s'établit à Cherbourg.
