Catalogue Note

Voir Berjonneau et Sonnery (1987, n° 193) pour une sculpture très comparable, ayant également conservé ses ornements en fibres végétales, illustrée dans les Chefs-d'œuvre inédits de l'Afrique Noire.
Les coupes anthropomorphes des Koro - dont le caractère surréaliste repose à la fois sur le réceptacle envahissant l'abdomen et sur la saisissante interprétation de la figure humaine - étaient utilisées, selon Roy Sieber (in RMN, 1997, p. 298), durant les rites de secondes funérailles, pour boire et verser des libations de vin de palme. Patine nuancée, très profonde, animée par la densité du décor linéaire finement gravé.
