Catalogue Note

L'iconographie - à la fois riche et très complexe - de ce sceptre symbolise le pouvoir en pays Akan. L'épaisseur de la patine et l'érosion des reliefs attestent son ancienneté - probablement transmis de génération en génération au sein d'une même famille, ou faisant partie d'un autel royal. Voir Cole & Ross (1977, p. 56, n° 98) et Sotheby's (New York, 13 mai 2011, n° 227) pour le sceptre Akan de la collection Charles Frankel.
