Don symbolique reçu par la jeune épouse pendant les rites du mariage, ce peigne illustre les adages qui lui étaient personnellement adressés. Il adopte la forme - rare - d'un buste féminin, évoquant dans le parfait équilibre des formes épurées et l'élégance des détails, les canons de la beauté féminine. Voir Sotheby's (New York, 17 novembre 2006, n° 138) pour un peigne comparable dans la collection William Brill, anciennement dans la collection Charles Ratton.
