Catalogue Note

Portées dans le dos par les femmes, les poupées de fertilité akwaba devaient favoriser la venue de nombreux enfants, et leur transmettre les canons de la beauté en pays Akan :"une tête fort belle, un large visage, un long cou gracieux, des rondeurs féminines et des épaules attrayantes" (Asihene in Dapper, 2003, p. 50). Celle-ci se distingue par la très belle tension des traits incisifs émergeant en bas-relief, et par le motif dorsal. Voir Cole & Ross (1977, p. 104, n° 209c) pour une poupée de la collection Marcia et Irwin Hersey très apparentée, probablement de la même main.
