Catalogue Note

La forme très singulière de ces sifflets a été - tôt et longtemps - interprétée comme étant inspirée des clefs forées européennes (cf. Mahillon, 1912, p. 54; Olbrechts, 1957, p. 206-207 ; de Sousberghe, 1959, p. 83-84). Pour Viviane Baeke (in Felix, 2012, p. 32), ces "sifflets-clés" en ivoire seraient plus vraisemblablement "une variante élaborée d'un autre type d'aérophone Pende". Voir Felix (2012, p. 35, n° 292) pour un sifflet très comparable dans les collections du musée de Tervuren.
