Catalogue Note

Chez les Guro, les figures zoomorphes ornant les poulies "représentent l'animal fondateur du lignage du tisserand, qu'il est interdit de tuer et de consommer, ou un animal rappelant l'habileté et la vélocité du tisserand" (Deluz in AFAA, 1989, p. 211). Cette dernière qualité est exprimée ici par la superbe tension de la pose et la fluidité des formes. Voir Afrique Noire : Sculptures des collections privées suisses (1971, fig. 265) pour une poulie très comparable.
