Catalogue Note

Les anciens boucliers kor - formés de deux épaisseurs en fibres de palmier tressées, renforcés dans leur partie médiane par deux lattes de bois, et ornés d'un graphisme fait de lignes entrecroisées teintes en noir - furent collectés (comme ici) entre la fin du XIXe siècle et les premières années du XXe siècle, "par les administrateurs, voyageurs et missionnaires anglais et allemands" (Benitez et Barbier, 1998, p. 40). Voir Benitez & Barbier (idem, p. 40-41, n° 3, pour un bouclier comparable de la collection Barbier-Mueller (inv. n° BMG 1018-96) ; et Sotheby's (Paris, 10 septembre 2007, n° 28) pour un autre, dans la collection Marc et Denyse Ginzberg.
