Catalogue Note

Ce bouclier - superbe - se distingue par l'épure de la forme et du décor pictural, animé par la touffe de poils bichrome, s'étirant à l'aplomb d'un bouton médian - rare. Voir Felix  (2009, p. 199, n° 205) pour un bouclier comparable dans la collection Marc Léo Felix ; et Sotheby's (New York, 15 mai 2003, n° 51 et 56) pour deux oeuvres Mangbetu collectées par Ernest Shreiber entre 1890 et 1913.
