Catalogue Note
Ce couteau constitue le type le plus rare des armes Fang. A la très grande élégance de la forme répond la beauté épurée du décor gravé de la lame. Il fut l'un des fleurons de l'exceptionnelle collection d'armes de jet du peintre belge Maurice Wyckaert (1923-1996). Elsen (2009, n° 46a) estime sa datation entre 1850 et 1890. Toujours selon lui (2003, p. 98 et 100), la forme de ces très rares couteaux de jet pourrait être à l'origine des haches Fang et Kota à tête d'oiseau. Voir Elsen (idem, p. 100) pour une arme comparable.
