The colour is accurate in the catalogue illustration. Except a minor (approx. 0,4 cm) loss of material located on the back of the work, this work is in excellent condition.

« Matière sauvage vivante », l'éponge apparait en 1957 dans l'œuvre de Klein. Elle est le réceptacle en même temps que l'emblème de ses recherches sur le monochrome et le vide. Affirmant leur autonomie spatiale, absorbantes et absorbées, les sculptures-éponges sont de véritables métaphores d'une fluidité sensorielle et extrasensorielle.
