Description

  • A Roman Marble Cinerary Urn Fragment
  • Marble
  • Height 8 1/2 in. 21.6 cm.
carved with a fragmentary recessed panel above a serpent's head, and with the head of a bearded deity with long radiating hair swept up above the forehead, an olive garland tied with a ribbon falling on both sides of the head, the panel inscribed in ink in a 19th Century hand: "Scavato il 10 Marzo 92 [.......] Spoleto."
