inspired by a Polykleitan prototype of the early 4th century B.C., turned to his left, his hair divided over the forehead and tied in a diadem knotted in the back and entwined with ivy leaves, the underside of the neck prepared in modern times for attachment to a bust or statue.

Dr. Mantz, Basel, acquired in the 1950s

Condition

Somewhat weathered overall, nose restored in marble (join filled in and painted over), chips on edges of ears and leaves of crown, chin abraded, lead-filled hole in nape of neck, neck break cut straight and worked smooth for adjusting onto a statue or bust.
