Description

  • Height 9 1/10 in. 23 cm.
of Corinthian type, of simple domed form with flaring neck-guard and large eye apertures flanking the nose-guard, the perimeter with holes pierced for attachment of the lining.

Provenance

Ambassador Walter Hess (1900-1986), Munich, acquired circa 1937, then by descent to the present owner

Condition

The crown of the head was damaged in a manner consistent with usage and has been skillfully repaired, as has been the proper right cheek-guard and possibly part of the neck-guard. The latter is chipped and bent in one area. There are 3 vertical cracks above the proper left shoulder and several small cracks on the proper left cheek-guard and to a lesser extent on the proper right one. There are several small cracks and losses on one area of the crown.
