Description

  • An Attic Red-Figure Hydria
  • Terracotta
  • Height 10 1/2 in. 26.7 cm.
painted with three women each draped and wreathed, one holding a mirror, one a small chest, and another a ball of yarn above a flaring basket filled with wool, bands of meanders and crossed squares above and below the scene, tongues on the overhanging rim, the details in added white..

acquired by the current owner's late husband from Folio Fine Art, Ltd., London, October 16th, 1969

 

Condition

Intact, sides and back of vessel including pouring handle and one lifting handle painted black presumably to mask large area of misfiring showing through in places, chip on outside edge of rim, two smaller chip on the inside, area of misfiring inside neck, another below scene.
