Description

  • An Egyptian Hardstone (Breccia?) Vase
  • Hardstone
  • Height 3 3/16 in. 8.2 cm.
of oval form lentoid in section, with twin tubular handles and finely carved flat everted rim, the deep brown matrix with grayish white veining.

Provenance

collection of Royall Tyler (1884-1953), acquired in Paris in the 1930s, probably from Dikran Kelekian or Joseph Brummer

Condition

Very good and as shown. There is a 1 cm. long chip on the edge of the rim on the side not shown in the catalogue. Minor nicks and/or flaws on the edges of the handles (the largest one visible in the side angle photo). There are two small shallow pitted areas on the side not shown which appear to be flaws in the stone. The surface of the vessel is rubbed quite smooth, as if from handling.
