Condition
Original canvas. Under UV light there are scattered spots of retouching, notably in his beard and face, a 16 by 8cm area in his upper left arm, and to restoration in the extreme lower centre and lower right corner (both patched on the reverse). Some retouching has discoloured and is visible to the naked eye, notably in the background in the upper right. There is a light rectangular stretcher mark, and hairline craquelure consistent with age.
Held in a decorative gold-painted wood and plaster frame.
