Condition

Original canvas. UV light reveals spots of retouching scattered overall (some, notably in the background, have discoloured and are visible to the naked eye), a 10 by 8cm area of retouch in the background in the upper left, and to a repaired puncture below his right hand (patched on the reverse). There is a rectangular stretcher mark parallel to the edges and hairline craquelure overall. Held in a decorative gold-painted wood and plaster frame.
