Catalogue Note

This is a copy after a work by Jean-Baptiste Leprince of 1769, now in a private collection. The work depicts an Ottoman dignitary, richly dressed, in a French setting (see Auguste Boppe, Les peintres du Bosphore au XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 152).
