Description

  • gilt copper
the bowl of deep rounded form on a low splayed foot with a raised lip around the rim housing the tall domed cover with a raised area at the centre supporting the button-form finial, the incised decoration of a floral and fruiting scroll



 

Condition

In overall good condition, some rubbing to gilding, finial slightly loose, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

A tombak covered food dish of similar form and decoration appeared in an exhibition in London (Grunberg and Torn 1988, no.45). Another related example of a sahan was sold through these rooms as was a version of this form copied in the pottery of Kutahya, 11th October 1996, lot 98 and lot 81, respectively.
