Catalogue Note

A very similar ewer, also missing its cover, is discussed in Allan 1986, pp.114-115. He points to the rococo-esque decoration on the ewer and the popularity throughout the Ottoman Empire from the early eighteenth Century for European artistic models, particularly under the encouragement of the Grand Vizir under Ahmed III's reign (1703-30), Damat Ibrahim Paşa of Nevşehir (Allan 1986, p.114).
