Condition
The canvas has been relined. Apart from some areas of hairline craquelure, notably in the white pigments, and a varnish that has yellowed slightly with age, the overall appearance of this work is good. UV light reveals strokes of retouching notably along the extreme edges and in the background in the upper left quadrant, a c. 10 by 3cm area in the lower left corner, and minor spots of cosmetic retouch in the red pigments of the figure to the right of Sultan Ahmed and some minor spots in the latter's headgear.
Held in a decorative gold-painted wood and plaster frame.
