Catalogue Note
Another blue and white jug of similar form and decorated with a closely related design was in the Adda Collection (Rackham 1959, fig.97B, no.224A, p.52). Rackham dates the jug to the first half of the eighteenth century and relates its shape to that of the German Westerwald stoneware jugs that were being exported widely in this period (ibid., p.53).
