Catalogue Note

This and the dish in the following lot are embellished with a combination of the most iconic forms of Iznik decoration, the favoured floral motifs and the swaggering saz leaf. This example bears a red bole experimental in its use and can, therefore, be dated to the earliest years of its appearance, in the 1560s.
