The first, a needlework Family Record sampler, E. Wells, Plymouth, Massachusetts, dated 1814. Worked in silk stitches on a linen ground, long-stitches and French knots, with names and birth dates of the Wells-Francis family. 16 by 19 inches. Some darkening. The second, a sampler by Annie Johnson with two crosses and basket of flowers, dated Feb. 20, 1825. 8 by 8 inches. Stained. The third, Adeline L. Beard's sampler, worked in silk threads on linen in cross-stitch with hem-stitching. 11 3/4 by 8 inches. Inscribed: Adeline L. Beard/W ham....1840. The fourth, Pamela Wells' sampler, aged 13, dated 1816. Stained. 11 1/4 by 9 1/4 inches. Together with a fine needlework sampler, stitched in silk on a linen ground with the figure of a young girl on a lawn, above vines of flowers and pendant bellflowers enclosing a verse. Darkened linen and pulls. 18 by 10 1/2 inches.
