Condition

The American Snipe (Plate CCXLIII) is in good condition, the greens very slightly attenuated. A small brown stain near the plants shows through to the verso, and some tiny, scattered fox marks throughout the sheet recto. The sheet edges with time stain, traces of graphite, and some minor nicks on the right edge. A soft crease in the upper margin extends into the unprinted area. The verso with pale mat stain and minor surface soiling throughout. American Woodcock (Plate CCLXVIII) is in good condition, margins, the watermark partially trimmed away, and the colors slightly attenuated with possible later additions (?). Soft handling creases throughout, and discoloration along the extreme sheet edges with a few tiny nicks due to uneven trimming. The verso with minor surface soiling and pale mat stain. The Yellow Shank (Plate CCLXXXVIII) subject is in good condition, with the sheet trimmed and laid down, and the greens and yellow very slightly attenuated. Some minor surface discoloration in the margins and unprinted areas probably due to the backing material, and a few inconspicuous abrasions to the left of the image. The sheet edges with occasional surface soiling, mat and time stain.
